EMS guided biofilm therapy - a change of approach in dental hygiene!

EMS guided biofilm therapy is the most effective and gentlest professional oral hygiene procedure available today. This complex treatment allows the establishment and maintenance of a healthy oral cavity.

EMS guided biofilm therapy -
professional teeth cleaning in a different way

EMS-guided biofilm therapy not only outperforms traditional ultrasonic scaling, but also allows for a much gentler, more gentle procedure. This makes it an ideal choice for people with tooth and gum sensitivity, gingivitis, periodontal disease, and implant patients.

  • Preventive and maintenance treatment - prevents caries, tartar formation, inflammatory changes in the gums; stops and reverses the pathological processes once they have started
  • Minimally invasive - reduces the need for ultrasonic and manual instruments
  • Maximum efficiency - the biofilm layer becomes visible thanks to the plaque staining, allowing targeted and rapid treatment
  • Extremely thorough - excellent for hard-to-reach surfaces (interdental, cervical, subgingival, around implants); cleans and polishes in one step
  • Painless - no pain even in case of cervical abrasion or extreme tooth sensitivity, thanks to the "No pain" technology
  • Gentle - does not damage the gums or the tooth surface, and is gentle on all types of restorations, even thin shells, because it does not scratch
  • Also recommended for children - the method is also gentle on small milk teeth
  • Knowledge base - personalised education and oral care advice is an integral part of every treatment
  • A new level of patient experience - the patient can feel well during the treatment and then feel reborn!

Patient reviews

What is biofilm?

  • Biofilm, also known as dental plaque, is a continuous layer of plaque that adheres firmly to the tooth surface, under the gums and even on dentures, fillings and orthodontic appliances, and is invisible to the naked eye. Dental plaque is made up of food debris, dead epithelial cells, immune cells and a myriad of bacteria - beneficial, neutral and harmful.
  • Over time, the biofilm hardens and calcifies, forming plaque that is harmful to both tooth and gum, and is also aesthetically very unpleasing.
  • The pathogenic bacteria that grow in the biofilm layer destroy the teeth and the tooth environment, causing tooth decay, gum atrophy and inflammation, and later disease of the entire periodontium. Unremoved biofilm can ultimately contribute to the loss of your own teeth or implants.
  • Pathogenic bacteria in dental plaque are not only responsible for local processes. If they penetrate deep into the tissues and spread throughout the body, they weaken the immune system and can even make the whole body ill; in addition to so-called nodal diseases (hair loss, skin problems, gynaecological complaints), they can cause serious joint problems, respiratory and lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases and even premature birth.
  • Biofilm is an extremely stubborn contaminant, and a simple brushing, however thorough, is not enough to remove it completely.

What is the purpose of EMS guided biofilm therapy?

The treatment gently but completely removes the sticky biofilm covering all surfaces in the mouth - natural teeth, dentures, fillings, permanent braces, above and below the gums, tongue. The procedure is also effective against emerging fresh tartar that is not yet firmly adherent and discolouration, but also loosens hard tartar.

What are the steps of EMS guided biofilm therapy?

The intervention uses an 8-step treatment protocol.

1. Oral hygiene assessment - the alpha of any treatment

During a thorough examination of the oral cavity, we assess the natural teeth, the implants and dentures, the condition of the soft tissues. In the case of pathological lesions, inflammation, we can refer the patient to other specialists.

2. Staining - to make the treatment targeted and effective

Use a varnish sponge to colour the surfaces of the teeth and their immediate surroundings, then wash off the paint. Then only the areas where the biofilm, otherwise invisible to the naked eye, remains stained. By making the plaque visible by applying the special stain, we can provide targeted treatment that is faster and more effective.

3. Insight and advice - for an optimal oral care routine at home

Making the biofilm visible not only makes it clear to us what we have to do, but also shows the patient the problem areas and where to pay more attention in future home oral care. We can help you with this too: we can give you valuable advice based on what we see, to help you with an optimal oral hygiene routine in relation to.

4. Airflow® - effective yet gentle removal of stubborn plaque

With Airflow Prophylaxis Master, we remove plaque and early tartar from all surfaces: enamel, soft tissue, implants, dentures, braces, using lukewarm water, air and a special powder. We also remove plaque from the tongue and gums. During this step, we clean and polish at the same time; we treat both the areas above and below the gums. The chemical-free, fine-grained powder is 100% effective and 100% gentle.

5. Perioflow® - for the areas under the gums

The next step is to remove the biofilm and calculus from the deeper part of the teeth and implants, under the gums. These hard to reach and sensitive areas are accessed using a perioflow nozzle. We can also use the instrument to clean out inflamed gum pockets, even deeper ones, at the gumline. As this also supports the deep cleaning (curettage) used to treat periodontal disease, the biofilm procedure is often used periodontal therapies as part of.

6. Piezon - the painless and safe ultrasonic tartar removal

All that's left is to remove the remaining mature, hard tartar with the Piezon depurator. The aforementioned 'No pain' technology means that the surgical-precision instrument only kicks in when it detects tartar and only acts as the tartar demands (intelligent feedback). In other words, it works dynamically when necessary, gently when necessary. This avoids pain and unnecessary contact with intact tooth surfaces. The device works quietly, without the unpleasant squeaking sound of traditional procedures.

7. Check - for a truly spotlessly clean mouth

The teeth are carefully checked. If there's no more stain, there's no plaque or tartar, so you've done a good job! The patient can check this with a hand mirror. You can also judge how much more effective EMS guided biofilm therapy is than traditional plaque removal.

8. Recall - regularity for a lifetime of oral health

With regular repeated treatment, we can not only achieve, but also maintain the optimal condition of the oral cavity. The frequency with which treatment is necessary is determined primarily by the patient's dental condition, oral hygiene and lifestyle. We recommend a frequency of 6 monthly for healthy teeth. Regular repetition is risk-free due to the gentleness of the method.
