What Is Aesthetic Dentistry

Modern dentistry no longer focuses solely on health and function – the look, balance, and individuality of each smile are equally important.
Even the most technically flawless dental work can fall short if it doesn’t harmonise with the patient’s facial features and personality.
That’s why personalisation is at the heart of aesthetic dentistry.

Functionality, beauty, naturalness, harmony, and individuality – these are the pillars of our approach.

In general, aesthetic dentistry can be divided into two main categories:

  1. Restorations combining beauty and function – such as lifelike fillings, crowns, and prosthetics that restore both health and appearance.
  2. Purely aesthetic corrections – such as eliminating discolouration, closing gaps, or repairing chipped teeth.

Aesthetic Fillings

Today’s patients expect fillings not only to restore tooth function but also to blend seamlessly into their smile. Modern composite fillings replace traditional grey amalgam with materials that are strong, durable, and completely natural-looking.

What to know about aesthetic fillings

  • Modern composites are layered and mimic the translucency of natural enamel.
  • Available in multiple shades for a perfect colour match – even for front teeth.
  • Their hardness is close to that of enamel, ensuring long-term durability.
  • The material hardens instantly under a curing light, so you can eat immediately after treatment.

The procedure

Local anaesthesia is applied, decayed or damaged areas are removed, and the cavity is cleaned and shaped.
The filling material is layered and light-cured, then polished to a smooth, glossy finish that resists plaque buildup.

Inlays and Onlays

Nem ritka, hogy oly mértékű az anyaghiány, esetleg a cserélni kívánt régi amalgámtömés oly nagy kiterjedésű, Inlays and onlays are used when a tooth is too damaged to be restored with a filling, yet its structure is still strong enough to avoid the need for a full crown.
These custom-made restorations are fabricated in a dental laboratory from an impression or digital scan. They fit the prepared cavity with perfect precision, restoring the tooth’s original shape, strength, and appearance while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

What to know about inlays and onlays

  • Inlays and onlays can be made from gold, composite, or ceramic – such as IPS e.max pressed ceramic.
  • The procedure preserves the natural tooth structure, maintaining its strength and integrity.
  • Laboratory-made restorations accurately reproduce the tooth’s colour and translucency, ensuring a natural and harmonious smile.
  • Their precise fit provides excellent chewing stability and long-term durability.
  • Different material options allow each patient to choose the ideal solution for their aesthetic, functional, and financial needs.

The procedure:

Two appointments are required.
At the first visit, the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken. A temporary filling is placed while the laboratory fabricates the inlay.
At the second visit, the final restoration is bonded with a special adhesive for a precise, durable fit.

Types of inlays and onlays by material

Ceramic (porcelain) inlays

Ceramic inlays provide one of the most natural-looking solutions available. Their colour and light-transmitting properties closely match those of natural teeth, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the smile.
A special adhesive bonding technique ensures long-term stability and a perfectly sealed fit.
At our clinic, we use Empress pressed ceramics – a highly aesthetic, wear-resistant, and colour-stable material ideal for both anterior and posterior teeth.

E.max inlays

The lithium disilicate–based IPS e.max is one of the most advanced all-ceramic restorative materials, combining exceptional aesthetics with outstanding strength.
This modern glass-ceramic offers long-term durability and reliability.
It is suitable for inlays, onlays, veneers, and crowns alike, and thanks to its natural translucency, it is the material of choice for patients seeking a flawless, lifelike smile without compromise.

Gold inlays

Gold inlays represent a classic yet still respected alternative.
They provide excellent precision, biocompatibility, and remarkable longevity – often lasting for several decades.
Today, they are primarily used in the posterior region, where durability and function are prioritised over aesthetics.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth to correct shape, colour, and minor imperfections such as chips or small gaps.

What to know about veneers

  • Veneers are best suited for healthy, non-root-treated teeth.
  • Before treatment, a bite assessment is essential, as veneers are not recommended for deep bites, clenching, or grinding.
  • They are ideal for correcting discolouration, enamel defects, or minor alignment issues.
  • Because veneers are delicate, they require careful maintenance to avoid chipping.
  • Only minimal enamel reduction is needed, but this makes the procedure irreversible.

The procedure

At the first visit, the teeth are prepared under local anaesthesia with minimal enamel removal, and impressions are taken. Together with your dentist, you select the shape and shade.
Temporary veneers are placed while the final porcelain veneers are crafted in the laboratory.
At the second visit, the veneers are bonded using a special adhesive, and the surfaces are polished for a seamless finish.

Material highlight

We use pressed ceramic (IPS e.max) – a premium material renowned for its lifelike translucency and natural colour. It is the preferred choice for veneers, and is also ideal for inlays and crowns, ensuring consistent quality across all restorations

Aesthetic Crowns

Zirconia crowns – the uncompromising solution

Zirconia represents the cutting edge of modern dentistry, meeting the highest aesthetic and functional standards. With this material, there’s no need for compromise – it delivers strength, precision, and beauty all in one.

What to know about zirconia crowns

  • Designed and milled using advanced CAD/CAM technology for perfect precision and fit.
  • The translucent, tooth-coloured frame provides a natural aesthetic ideal for visible areas.
  • Lightweight yet extremely strong – suitable even for full-arch bridges.
  • Biocompatible and hypoallergenic.
  • Recommended for replacing old metal-ceramic crowns, restoring discoloured or root-treated teeth, or completing implant-based restorations.

Pressed ceramic (IPS e.max) crowns – the most aesthetic option

Developed by Ivoclar Vivadent in Liechtenstein, IPS e.max pressed ceramic combines lifelike beauty with exceptional quality. While less strong than zirconia, it offers unmatched translucency and natural colour depth – making it ideal for the smile zone.

What to know about pressed ceramic crowns

  • Best suited for front teeth and short-span bridges (up to three units).
  • Entirely metal-free, made purely of porcelain for outstanding translucency.
  • Available in a wide shade range for truly lifelike results.
  • Perfect for crowns, inlays, and veneers where aesthetics are the top priority.
